Instructions:
Prepare the Cookie Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the milk and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
Stir in the mini chocolate chips.
Form the Truffles:
Using a small cookie scoop or spoon, scoop out small portions of the cookie dough and roll them into balls.
Place the cookie dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Freeze the cookie dough balls for at least 30 minutes, or until firm.
Prepare the Chocolate Coating:
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips or chocolate melting wafers in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval, until smooth. (Alternatively, you can melt the chocolate using a double boiler.)
If using, stir in the vegetable oil or shortening to help thin the chocolate for easier coating.
Coat the Truffles:
Using a fork or dipping tool, dip each cookie dough ball into the melted chocolate, making sure it is fully coated.
Allow any excess chocolate to drip off before placing the coated truffle back on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
Immediately sprinkle the tops with additional mini chocolate chips, if desired.
Set the Truffles:
Allow the chocolate coating to set completely at room temperature, or place the truffles in the refrigerator to speed up the setting process.
Serve:
Once the chocolate is set, the truffles are ready to be served.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Enjoy your homemade chocolate-covered cookie dough truffles!
