Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until the dough starts to come together.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for about 5-7 minutes.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours or until it has doubled in size.
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic powder, dried oregano, and dried basil.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle (about 12×18 inches).
- Assemble the Bread:
- Brush the dough with the melted butter mixture.
- Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheese and grated Parmesan over the dough.
- Starting from the long side, tightly roll up the dough into a log.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the log in half lengthwise, exposing the layers of dough and cheese.
- Twist the two halves together, keeping the cut sides facing up. Pinch the ends to seal.
- Bake the Bread:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- Place the twisted bread on the prepared baking sheet. Cover it with a clean cloth and let it rise for another 20-30 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
- Add the Finishing Touch:
- While the bread is baking, combine the melted butter and garlic powder for the topping.
- Once the bread is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately brush it with the garlic butter.
- Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
- Serve:
- Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
